Today we are going to examine something we call “Unenforceable Rules” and examine their connection to grievances.
Unenforceable rules are those expectations that we have that are unrealistic. Or unenforceable. When we expect someone to do something they are unable to do, or are unwilling to do, we are destined for a let down. As our friends in AA tell us, “expectations are future resentments waiting to happen.”
We do this kind of thing everyday – like expecting a habitually late person to show up on time for a change… or like expecting a known liar to tell you the truth about something…or like expecting a rude person to be nice for once.
