In Module 5 you were given information regarding the pharmaceutical treatment of diabetes. It is important that you understand what these medications do and how they work. It is also relevant to understand what the effects of other medications you may be taking (either short-term or chronic medications) on your blood glucose levels. Many people take over-the-counter supplements and ‘natural’ products, which are generally believed to be harmless.
However, all active ingredients have effects which can positively or negatively affect your condition. Interactions between herbs, vitamins, minerals and prescribed medications are not well researched and many physicians simply do not know. It is important that you ask advice from appropriate professionals in this regard to ensure that you do not have an undesirable outcome.
